A $12.5 million Hess gift will help Salk Institute develop plants with larger root systems capable of absorbing and storing potentially billions of tons of carbon per year from the atmosphere.

The new recoverable resources estimate includes 15 discoveries through yearend 2019. The Uaru discovery is the first of 2020 and will be added to the resources estimate at a later date.
