Iconic Hess Toy Trucks will be used to teach STEM in a fun and engaging way
• Approximately 8,000 Hess Toy Trucks will be donated to ND elementary schools
• Each elementary school will receive a set of 24 trucks with associated STEM curriculum
• Donation brings Hess social investment in ND in 2018 to approximately $1 million
BISMARCK, ND, November 26, 2018 -- Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES) announced today that it will donate Hess Toy Truck and STEM education kits to every elementary school in North Dakota, totaling more than 8,000 trucks in all. Aligning with the state’s Strategic Vision for education, Hess has partnered with the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction to find new opportunities for interactive teaching and learning. The STEM curriculum, designed by Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Educational Outreach, uses the newest model of the iconic toy as a learning tool that introduces elementary age students to different STEM concepts in a fun and engaging way.
Commenting on the donation during a demonstration at Liberty Elementary School in Bismarck, Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford said, “Governor Burgum and I would like to thank Hess for their great investment in North Dakota. These fun tools promise to spark innovation across our education system and provide North Dakota students with inspiration and excitement for learning in STEM education.”
Adding to the Lieutenant Governor’s comments, Kirsten Baesler, State Superintendent of Public Instruction also noted that, “The Hess truck is one of the most enduring and well-known children’s toys in our country, and I applaud the company’s foresight in using it to help teach our elementary school students about science, engineering, technology and math. These trucks and the accompanying teaching materials show our young people about the importance of energy efficiency, kinetic energy, design concepts, and other aspects of STEM. I am grateful for the company’s generosity in donating more than 8,000 trucks to our North Dakota elementary schools for this project.”

In early January, Hess will ship the Toy Trucks and STEM kits directly to each elementary school, and teachers will be able to use the materials as part of their curriculum going forward. The Hess Toy Truck has been a holiday tradition since 1964 and is one of the longest running toy brands in the U.S.
