Hess Employees Catch the Spirit of Service

Teams Volunteer to Support Their Neighbors

More than 100 Houston-based Hess employees and contractors, along with their family members and friends, pedaled 180 miles this past April in a fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. They were not alone. A team from the Hess office in Seminole, Texas rode to support multiple sclerosis research in July – and teams from Hess offices in New Jersey and New York did the same in September and October, respectively.

In the past eight years, the teams from multiple Hess offices have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It’s just one example of the spirit of service Hess employees routinely demonstrate worldwide.

  • In May, a team of five from the Hess London office made a grueling charity cycle from the heart of London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris to raise money in memory of a colleague who died suddenly in 2011.
  • In November, more than 80 employees and contractors at Hess Denmark participated in Movember, an annual charity event designed to bring awareness to male health issues like prostate cancer.

Employee activities and initiatives are just part of the culture at Hess – and a significant part of life at Hess. We are committed to making a difference in the communities where we do business and that commitment includes volunteering to support non-profit organizations.

In November, for example, employees in North Dakota sent Hess-branded water glasses to members of a local National Guard troop who are serving in Afghanistan – a holiday gift to show our appreciation for their service to our country.

Many locations have organized Employee Activities Committees, which coordinate everything from team-building outings to participation in special events including charity golf outings, blood drives, holiday toy collections and food drives.

The Hess Force, an ever-expanding team of Houston-based Hess employees, participates in charity races in the Houston area and encourages members to donate time with numerous company-sponsored initiatives for Target Hunger, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity and the Special Olympics.

In November, Hess Force members went over the edge – literally – to raise money for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. They overcame their fears – and raised money to support more than 44,000 Special Olympics Texas athletes – by rappelling 20 stories off the edge of a high-rise building in Houston.

No matter where you work at Hess, you can make a difference – in your job and in your community.
