Geophysicists use a combination of mathematical models and physical measurement techniques to analyze the subsurface and optimize the production of oil and gas. An ever-increasing array of innovative technologies is improving the quality and accuracy of subsurface images and the speed with which they can be interpreted. We pride ourselves on being a first adopter of emerging technology and often lead the industry in the adoption of high technology to solve complex problems. For example, Hess was the first energy company to discover an oil field using reflection seismic (1928) and we were among the first energy companies to link computers together into “arrays” for parallel processing of large amounts of data. Since then we have continued to be at the forefront of advances in the quality and processing of data from the subsurface of the earth.
