In the Media: Hess Unravels Structural Complexities of Stampede’s Reservoir

  • The Hess-operated Stampede oil and gas development is one of the largest undeveloped fields in the Gulf of Mexico.

An article published in The American Oil and Gas Reporter’s October issue reports that the Hess-operated Stampede Field can boast having some of the deepest reservoirs in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM).

The reservoir depth, approximately 30,000 feet or more, can be envisioned as exceeding the height of Mount Everest. Understanding and predicting the reservoir’s behavior is the key that makes developing these ultra-deep reservoirs in the GoM possible.

In this article, Multidisciplinary Approach Unravels Structural Complexities Of Stampede Reservoir, co-authors Gopal Mohapatra, Andry Nabasir and Steve Strauss co-examine three of the main Stampede reservoir features, which they have studied in detail.

They discuss how the integrated products and knowledge from these studies were incorporated into a geological model that was used for the “base case” development plan.
