Corporate Responsibility Magazine (CRO) has named Hess Corporation No. 10 on its list of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens in 2010. The magazine measures corporate attributes in such areas as Climate Change, Environment, Philanthropy, Human Rights and Employee Relations.

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens List is based on more than 360 data points of publicly-available information in seven categories: Environment, Climate Change, Human Rights, Philanthropy, Employee Relations, Financial Performance, and Governance. The 100 Best Corporate Citizens are selected from among the large-cap Russell 1000 companies, based on data provided by leading ESG investor data firm IW Financial.

Hess was first named to the list in 2008 when it was ranked No. 76 overall.  The company moved up to No. 15 in 2009, the same year CRO recognized Hess Chairman and CEO John Hess as Responsible CEO of the Year in the Large-Cap category.

In presenting the award to Mr. Hess, CRO President and Publisher Jay Whitehead said that the "CRO Magazine Responsible CEO of the Year Award recognizes John Hess’ significant contribution to raising the profile and professional practice of corporate responsibility and sets a high standard for those who aspire to this award in the future."

Hess also expressed his appreciation for the leadership of Gerald Bresnick, vice president, Environment Health, Safety and Social Responsibility, and Paula Luff, director, Corporate Social Responsibility for the company’s improved performance in corporate responsibility.
 
CRO magazine’s recognition of Hess and its leadership "are the result of a lot of hard work and dedication to the Hess Values. These awards represent the very real commitment of the company, its employees and its contractors to be decent and productive world citizens," said Bresnick.

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens List’s is governed by a Methodology Committee of the Corporate Responsibility Officers Association (CROA).
