Profile: Michelle, Territory Manager
When she joined Hess in 1985, recruited by the company fresh out of C.W. Post College in Brookville, N.Y. and armed with a Business Management degree, Michelle was eager to learn and ready to work.
"Hess was recruiting for entry management level jobs. That was exactly what I was looking for," she says.
Michelle's career began at a Hess retail store on Long Island, N.Y., pumping gas and washing windshields – part of a program that enabled her to get experience through the ranks, staying close to customers and training her to motivate and encourage the people around her.
Today, as a territory manager, Michelle oversees operations for nine convenience stores and stations in Nassau County, Queens and Brooklyn, N.Y.
"I coach managers to act like this is their own business and give great service to every customer every time," she says
Michelle says she noticed that the people who start their careers at Hess and work their way up have a real passion for the company and its possibilities.
"I have two managers who wanted to become marketing reps, and I told them: ‘I know I can get you to where I am.’ We’re all in the same company. Other people’s success benefits everyone."
