Performance Management
Ongoing Feedback and Coaching
Performance Management is the centerpiece of our approach to managing, rewarding, and developing people consistent with our culture and values.

We are committed to a “pay for performance” philosophy. You’ll also set annual performance objectives that align with their broader organizational goals. Progress toward these objectives is formally reviewed at mid-year and year-end. If you exceed expectations and enhance the company’s performance, you will be rewarded with both merit salary increases and a larger annual bonus.

Development Planning
Formal Development Plan
Professional development is not a one-time event. It’s a career-long series of learning opportunities, assignments, and experiences that expand value – both to the company and to employees.

You will work with your manager to create a development plan, which serves as an annual roadmap. The plan clearly describes personal development needs and goals for the year and how they will be achieved and measured. They address both your needs and company needs.

We’ve developed career paths to lay out the skills and experiences employees need to advance. We promote professional growth with opportunities to work on both short- and long-term developmental assignments, often in exciting locations around the world. It’s all part of Hess’ career succession planning.

People Planning
The Hess People Planning Process ensures that we have the right people strategies, organizations and resources in place to be successful today and in the future.

We’ve recently added new, world-class online tools to support our people processes and share resources and information across businesses, functions and continents. Today, it’s easier than ever for employees and managers to create, align and track objectives, performance and development as part of a global approach to people planning and management.

Mentoring
Finding a mentor is a great way to learn, grow and develop. Hess strongly encourages mentoring relationships and has developed formal mentoring programs.
