MBA PROGRAM

Hess Corporation offers a challenging and rewarding career development program for a small, select number of MBA graduates each year. Since its inception more than 20 years ago, the program has earned a reputation in the industry for its high level of senior management involvement, flexible career paths, high-impact assignments, and track record of developing future leaders. Past participants are in leadership and officer-level positions throughout our business units and corporate staff functions.

Senior Leaders Personally Involved

Our senior leadership team helps evaluate candidates and our Chairman takes a personal interest in every candidate.

Because of our relatively flat organization structure, MBAs have opportunities to work on projects with strategic implications. The high-level exposure to senior leadership they receive is often cited as a unique and particularly rewarding aspect of the program.

A six to eight week company wide orientation, led by top leaders, provides MBAs with insight into the company's operations and key business strategies. Participants are also assigned a senior manager as a mentor on the Hess culture and career management.

Flexible Career Paths

MBAs can influence their future and explore different career options in ways that most other companies cannot match.

There are two principal career tracks: Operations Management and Financial Management. Hess has built in flexibility to accommodate changing interests and shifting business needs. MBAs may begin with an identified track or develop one over the course of the program, but no two participants in the program have the same career path. Most graduates of the program start as financial analysts and progress into supervisory and managerial positions with varied assignments along the way.

Assignments are based on careful consideration of capabilities and the company's needs, and the length is defined by job requirements. They are typically in the following areas:

  • Corporate
    • Planning & Control
    • Strategy & Business Development
    • Treasury
    • Information Services
  • Exploration & Production
    • Financial Planning & Control
    • Business Development
    • Production and Development Operations
  • Marketing & Refining
    • Financial Planning & Control
    • Retail and Refining Operations
    • Supply & Trading
    • Energy Marketing

Work locations may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • New York, NY
  • Houston, TX
  • Woodbridge, NJ

Do you qualify?

We're looking for people with a demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment, have the flexibility to manage change with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic. Interest in the energy industry is essential.

Candidates should have two to five years of work experience, ideally in the energy industry. No specific undergraduate concentration is required. However, a technical or scientific degree is helpful if you're interested in Operations Management. You must also have U.S. work authorization.

At Hess Corporation, you get the best of both worlds: big-company opportunities with small-company flexibility and exposure. If that appeals to you, write to us at:
